7th Annual 5K Walk/Run Directly Benefits Local Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Santa Monica, CA, April 23, 2014 – Exercise is one of the best-known forms of cancer prevention, and annual event calendars are teaming with breast cancer walks and runs. There are so many choices that it is difficult to decipher which fundraising events really make a difference in eradicating breast cancer.

Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation’s annual Walk with Love is serious business. In spite of the festive atmosphere and the 5K walk, run or stroll through the beautiful Pacific Palisades on a glorious Sunday morning in May, there is much to be done to create a future without breast cancer.

Chief Visionary Officer Dr. Susan Love has made it her life’s work to find the cause and prevention of breast cancer. “We have achieved breast cancer awareness and there are many effective treatments  available for those who are diagnosed. But cancer isn’t a walk in the park,” says Dr. Love, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 and underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. “Though survivors may be grateful to be alive, the cost of the cure is high. Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation is in this to find the cause of breast cancer and ways to prevent it.”

Ian Taras, MD, is on board for Walk with Love 2014. Dr. Taras’ mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at 47. When Dr. Taras and his sister discovered they carry the BRCA gene mutation, his sister had a prophylactic mastectomy to reduce her risk of breast and ovarian cancer. For the past dozen years, the Woodland Hills gynecologist and philanthropist Dr. Taras and his team have participated in the Revlon Run Walk, raising over $500,000 for research into women’s cancers. This year, Dr. Taras decided it was time for a change. “We need to shift breast cancer research into high gear and focus on finding the cause(s) and ways to prevent it,” said Dr. Taras. “Every one of us can participate in breakthrough research like the [HOW] Study and anyone can have a direct impact on ending breast cancer by raising funds that support Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation’s programs.”

About Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation

Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation’s mission is to achieve a future without breast cancer by focusing on prevention and finding the cause. This is being accomplished by democratizing research to include the public’s voice in the process, facilitating research through programs like the Army of Women®, launched in 2008 as a resource for researchers, and performing research through projects like the innovative Health of Women [HOW] Study™, created in 2012 to identify the cause and cost of the disease through an online cohort.

The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, and its more than 375,000 Army of Women volunteers nationwide, invite you to Act with Love and become part of a movement to engage the public in breast cancer research with the goal of eradicating the disease once and for all.
