As this Valentine’s Day approaches, I’m trying to squeeze in  my card and flower buying while making final preparations for the Foundation 7th International Symposium on the Intraductal Approach to Breast Cancer. As you might imagine, it’s a bit of a hectic time!

Researchers and advocates from throughout the world will be attending the Symposium, which will be taking place in Santa Monica on February 23-26. Our focus will be “The Normal Human Breast: Building Our Understanding from Mice to Women,” and we will be addressing the most pressing topics related to understanding the organ where cancer begins. This year we also have two new features: our “Call to Action” grant and our day-long workshop, “Crossing the Chasm from Animals to Women.” It’s going to be amazing—and in my March letter I’ll give you a sneak preview of what we’ll be writing up in our conference report!

Right now, though, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I’d like to tell you about some of the people who are in my heart:

•    All of the amazing women and men who have joined the Love/Avon Army of Women.  We have close to 350,000 Army members, and their dedication and commitment overwhelms me. I still can’t believe that this idea I had to build an Army is now a reality. You are the best!

•    All of the incredible women who volunteer for the studies we conduct at the Foundation. We couldn’t do our work without you!

•    All of the researchers who are designing studies that can utilize Army of Women volunteers. Without you, our volunteers would have nothing to do! And without you, we won’t get the answers we need to end this disease.

•    All of the women I have met who have had breast cancer. You are the reason I do this work. You are my inspiration to go Beyond a Cure.

•    The Foundation’s staff and board members. You make it possible for us to do the work we do. Your commitment to our work motivates me every time I step into our office!

I hope that you’ll help me honor these incredible women and men by making a gift to the Foundation this Valentine’s Day. Your gift could be in honor of someone you know who volunteers or works for the Foundation. It could be in honor of someone you know who has joined our Army of Women. Or it could be in honor or in memory of someone you know who has been touched by breast cancer.

Your gift will play an important role in moving all of us Beyond a Cure. Thank you for your support.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
